So as everyone knows, on Wednesday, January 18th, we (along with a large portion of US Based websites) participated in the ‘Stop SOPA/PIPA Internet Blackout’. TheSwitchRadio.com participated by not only forcing our website to go dark but we also took a stand by playing no music on our radio stream. Support for the movement was garnered nationwide alongside companies like Wikipedia, Google, Reddit, Craigslist, Mozilla, and countless thousands of other websites all across the map including industries like Web Hosting, Web Design, Online Entertainment, Tech Services, and more.
The response was astounding and went a long way to proving the point that senseless internet censorship, in an attempt to stop piracy, would cause drastic effects as many people found it difficult to access the resources that they had become accustomed to in their every day lives.
But now, to the real meat of this post, the results. The entire point behind the staged blackout was to prove a point and to garner support for the Anti-SOPA/PIPA movement within the nations leaders including the House of Representatives, Congress, and the Judiciary Committees.
The attached figure, shows the shift in support following the blackout and it seems to be swinging the right way; however, the battle is not over. These bills still have a breath of life within them and could still also have its articles broken up into smaller ‘inclusions or porkrolls’ into other bigger bills not pertaining to Piracy or AntiPiracy.
